The problem with that is "how to differentiate between real people and bots (search engines bots, spam bots, etc.)?"
I can't see a reliable solution unfortunately.

I would love such functionality.

I believe that it should be possible with the use of "php_value auto_append_file" inside a .htaccess file

Matthieu, may it wouldn't so be reliable, but bots usually send a different user agent.

although it won't provide as much information as with other means, there is an evident benefit in such a method

To work around the issue of whether of not a bot , there are a couple solutions
1. A list of known bot-IPs (which is periodically updated)
2. A reverse lookup
3. Filter on user agent
4. All of the above
