I voted "not sure" because I think i would rather do the backup using the shell (i have ssh access to my server)

That is really a good idea. Backups in general are a good thing. Why it has not already been implemented is the question ...!
:-)

P.S.: It is helpful for server-moves also. That way, you only would have to install the latest copy of PHPMyVisites on the new server, import the database and you are done ...

I think that phpmyvisites require a mysql access to install so I think we already can do backup using mysql or phpmyadmin features. Am i wrong?

Malko that is true. But it would much more simple to do that inside the phpmyvisites interface. No need to go to phpmyadmin, select the phpmv tables to dump, create the dump, etc.
Also phpmyadmin is not very happy with very large dumps.

It can be very useful if the export can be mailed automaticly periodicly to the administrator.

It will be interessant for all web master don't proceded manualy.

Global export is easy with free mysql admin tools.
